COUNSELLOR & COACH

PATRICIA DOLMAN:  BACP Accredited Counsellor
I have been working as a counsellor since 2000, and hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling from Keele University
I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and work within their ethical guidelines.

Following a successful career in Social Work, I wanted to develop my interests both professionally and personally.  Having enjoyed working with individuals, children and families and community groups, I became interested in undertaking more specific therapeutic work.   I began with an introductory course in counselling, followed by a certificate course at Birmingham University.

During this time I moved to work within the voluntary sector, at a family centre run by Barnardo's.  I continued my interested in therapy, securing a job working in a therapeutic setting, also for Barnardo's.  During this time I undertook and successfully completed a Post Graduate Diploma in counselling.

This period of transition proved challenging both personally and professionally, myself awareness developing along with my skills as a therapist.
Enjoying an active and challenging professional life, meant that a work life balance was important.  To maintain a good social network and support of family and friends has always been important to me, as has accessing more creative interests such as writing and photography and gardening.

My career as a therapist further developed when I worked in a FE college counselling students.  At this time I also ventured into private practice and also began to work for ICAP a voluntary organisation offering long term psychotherapy.

I have always been an integrative practitioner, developing my skills and knowledge base, to be  able to work effectively in short term solution focused ways as well as open ended counselling and  long term psychotherapy.

I find that I have developed an approach that integrates well aspects of the person centred and psychodynamic approaches, enhanced further by Cognitive behavioural influences.

  • My overall value base is Humanistic
  • My own personal maturity has brought confidence and experience which I bring to my work
  • My enthusiasm continues to be consistent and refreshed
  • I have developed further skills in supervision and most recently trained as a Coach and now offer this as part of my practice

Personally I have also enjoyed developing my guitar playing. Badminton and rounders offer me fitness and social involvement and time with family and friends continues to be central for me.  I am also a long term vegetarian and health and well-being in a holistic way is something that I am always mindful of, mixed with a healthy appreciation of nice wines.
